OST here with the first post of the New Year and we are starting 2013 off with my painted Hell Worm, which, if you haven't
followed along, is a Nurgle take on the Heldrake that I sculpted back in October 2012. This model was a lot of fun to build, but got a little frustrating on the paint bench (plus I got distracted with a Tau commission ... er, or two ... and some other conversions, damn my hobby ADD), but I did want to get it painted at least to the standard by which I want it to appear on the tables, so here it is!
The Hell Worm is meant to represent a Warpsmith and a Sorcerer's vision of Despair brought to life through a metal, deamon engine frame made of coils and provided by the Warpsmith. The frame is then bound with the flesh of seven times seven mortal souls. Once bound in flesh, the spirit of a hungry warp entity is bound into the machine using rituals to bind it to Nurgle ... and bing, you have a Balefire spitting flying beast to fill the enemy with despair and terror!
As far as painting goes, I used my
Corrupted flesh tutorial, but had to really play with the amount of bruise and blood colors as well as the application of the jaundice effect. That was the frustrating part ... and given the epic scale of the model, I will likely continue tweeking it for some time before (if ever) I am happy with it.
Regardless of what I think, I know it will be well received on the table and it fits it quite well with the rest of my restored Nurgle forces as seen below.
Here they are all together in a big happy family photo! The dark gods will surely smile on this lot when it does head to war, which will be soon. I am itching to put this flyer on the table!
Anyway, I have a lot of stuff on my plate at the moment outside of the normal work/family stuff. I have picked up a Iron Man themed Tau army commission and have a few odds and ends to tidy up in my Necron army before Adepticon.
Speaking of Adepticon, I have been tempted by gameplay to make a Chaotic feeling Necron force to mix in with the Chaos. The Yellow crons have proved an insanely good ally, but that is another story for another post. For now, I would love to hear what you think of the Hell Worm! Please be gentle as I am still sore from birthing this terrible thing!
