[Day 17] Rikittkit, the Stylite Baboons

Rikittkit, the Stylite Baboons

It is said that when a follower of Nechrubel reaches the highest mystical understanding of the god’s true nature, they are transformed bodily so that their outside shows their inner nature. They become grinning, red-arsed misbegotten crosses between dogs and monkeys. In Bergen Chrypt thet call the creatures baboons, but scholars note that the Blessed of Nechrubel differ from these creatures in three ways. They always appear atop pillars or pedestals. They have wings like those of a swan. And finally, they have the gift (or curse) of speech.

A Stylite Baboon appearswhen a person have lost their way, whether literally or spiritually. It will never bee seen to arrive, but is assumed to wing its way down from the stars. They are limited in their actions, but never quite predictable (roll 1d6)

1: It will ask for freshly slaughtered meat in return for its blessing.
2: It will pose a riddle
3: It will suggest that the lost person is emcumbered unduly by their traveling companions or worldly possessions.
4: It will offer to answer three questions.
5: It will grant a wish
6: It will suggest that murder is always a solution

The creature’s only blessing is leaving. The wish it might grant will be approximate and disappointing. It might have some value, but a drawback will exist somewhere in the future.

The aswers the creature provides  are always truthful, but only occasionally truthful.

Here are some of the riddles it might pose

1: What is often cut but does not die?
(A pack of cards)

2: What is most like a horse?
(Another horse. It finds this quite amusing).

3: If two’s company, and three’s a crowd, what are four and five?
(Nine).

4: What is it that breaks from having its name uttered?
(Silence)

5: I am tall when I am born, but short when I die. What am I?
(A candle).

6: What is the swiftest way to enlightenment?
(Spilling young blood into the Trough of Nechrubel and observing your reflection therein).
